What to expect

If you’re new to acupuncture, it can help to know how sessions typically work.

Initial appointment

Your first session includes time to talk through your health history, current symptoms and what you’d like support with. This helps shape your treatment from the start.

Treatment

Acupuncture involves the use of very fine needles placed at specific points on the body. Most people find the treatment itself calm and relaxing, with time to rest during the session.

Afterwards

You may feel more relaxed, sometimes tired, or occasionally more energised. Reactions vary, but we’ll talk through what to expect based on your situation.

How often to come

Acupuncture is often most effective as a course of treatment rather than a one-off session.

For specific or longstanding issues, weekly or fortnightly appointments are usually recommended at the beginning to build momentum and support lasting change.

As things improve, treatments can often become less frequent. We’ll decide together what feels appropriate once we’ve discussed your situation and what you’re hoping for support with.

This work isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about reconnecting with your body in a way that supports your life rather than competes with it.

Payment

A £50 deposit is taken at the time of booking to secure your first appointment.

Follow-up treatments can be paid for by bank transfer or card at the time of your session.

Cancellation policy

48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments cancelled with less notice will be charged in full.

This helps ensure the smooth running of the clinic. Thank you for your understanding.

Health insurance

Many health insurance providers cover acupuncture with a British Acupuncture Council member.

Please check your policy in advance, as some insurers require a GP referral.

You will usually pay for treatment upfront and submit an invoice for reimbursement. I’m happy to provide supporting invoices where needed.

Common questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles used are very fine, much thinner than those used for injections.

Most people feel little to no discomfort. You may notice a mild sensation such as tingling, warmth or heaviness, followed by a sense of relaxation.

How many sessions will I need?

Every person and condition is different. Some people notice changes after just a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer course of treatment, especially for deeper or more chronic issues.

We’ll review your progress together and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Fertility support often works over a longer period, as treatment may be aligned with several menstrual cycles.

If you’re unsure what might be appropriate, you’re welcome to book a free discovery call before starting.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal, as treatment often involves access to arms and legs.

If needed, blankets and towels are provided so you feel comfortable throughout.

Does health insurance cover acupuncture?

Some private health insurance providers offer cover for acupuncture.

You’ll typically pay upfront, request an invoice, and submit it for reimbursement.
